On September 11th, 2009, STVFD members chose to raise awareness for and honor the fallen by challenging members of Charlottesville's Gold's Gym to take the "9/11 World Trade Center Challenge," where participants must complete 110 floors (the amount of floors in each of the Twin Towers) on a Stairmaster in under 30 minutes while wearing an airpack. The goal was to give people a sense of one of the challenges that the firefighters who responded to the World Trade Center attack may have had to endure. There were many hesitant climbers, but everyone that participated agreed that the World Trade Center Challenge was no walk in the park. Special thanks goes to Gold's Gym General Manager Daniel Harper and the whole Gold's Gym staff (visit http://www.goldsgym.com/gyms/index.php?gymID=833), all of the participants, and firefighters Ben Harper and Sarah Elizabeth Smith for their help with the event.
